The present work is devoted to the study of fictional zoonyms in the series of books “Fantastic beasts” by J. K. Rowling and the ways of their translation from English into Russian, as well as to the psycholinguistic analysis of effective translation strategies applied to these zoonyms. The aim of this study is to explore, to analyze and to describe the methods of translation of fictional zoonyms from the series of books “Fantastic Beasts” written by J. Rowling and to single out the most effective translation strategies, applicable to the translation of fictional proper names. The work consists of the introduction, 3 chapters, the conclusion, bibliography, and 2 appendices. In Chapter I, the notion of zoonyms is analyzed and the peculiarities of zoonyms used in the series of books “Fantastic beasts” by J. K. Rowling are outlined. Chapter II studies the specifics of translation transformations, explores the ways of translating zoonyms from the series of books “Fantastic Beasts” written by J. Rowling, and compares the translations of the zoonyms carried out by the publishing houses Rosman and Machaon. Chapter III presents and analyzes the results of the psycholinguistic experiment, and highlights the most effective strategies for translating fictitious proper names. The research is of high practical and theoretical significance, as it can be further used in the practice of translation.The total number of pages is 70 (without the appendices). The bibliography contains 52 sources. The number of examples collected is 200.
