Natural increase, rural migration and the urbanization of rural areas are causing the urban population to grow. Statistically speaking, based on World Bank data, the share of urban dwellers in the world has increased by 22% over the last 60 years. By 2021, the percentage will reach 56%. There are currently 512 cities with over one million inhabitants worldwide and their population growth is gradually increasing. As urbanization continues to accelerate throughout the world, causing urban areas to expand, urban development is becoming an urgent issue nowadays. Thus, urban space plays a major role in contemporary realities, not only at the national level but also globally.
